This year, the route for the DC Pride Parade starts at 14th and T Street, NW and proceeds south on 14th Street through Thomas Circle to Pennsylvania Avenue.  It’s a great opportunity for the business owners in Logan Circle to participate in Pride and shine.  Hence, the 1st “Beaming with Pride” storefront decorating contest.

Logan Circle Main Street asked businesses to decorate their storefronts to say to attendees, “We see you, we support you,”  and we want to have fun with rainbow banners, window decals, and glittering streamers.  Two of the most fun displays that are “on brand” are at City Paws Animal Hospital which features Scooby-Doo and Scrappy wearing Pride collars and Red Light Bar & Detroit Pizza which “spotlights” dancing traffic lights.

LCMS believes that communities thrive when businesses and residents participate in events together.  By decorating, our business owners and managers are welcoming new and repeat customers so we can all celebrate together.  I love Call Your Mother’s display – it features neon bright garlands across the front of the store.  Another very welcoming display is at Logan Tavern which incorporates Barbies into their decorations – possibly an homage to the Barbie Pond on Avenue Q.

The decorations authentically express who the business owners and their employees are.  I think Jane Jane’s window slogan, “We’re Here, We’re Queer, We’re Thirsty.” is just perfect any day of the week.  I also love the display at Logan Hardware that displays a tumble of water cans and camping gear in rainbow colors.

Logan Circle is a special community within DC and it even has standing across the country (throughout the world next year!)  The people who live and visit Logan Circle want to be in an LGBTQ+ community and want to show their solidarity and allyship.  Churchkey/Birch & Barley demonstrates this with their TWO STORY display of bunting and a prominent sign saying, “Black Trans Lives Matter.”  Another display that showed community spirit is the Bonstra Haresign Architects display that legally colored the Logan Circle map with Pride.
