District Bridges & Pepco Partner to Donate a Washer & Dryer to Harriet Tubman Elementary School

On Thursday, May 25th, 2017 Harriet Tubman Elementary School, District Bridges and Pepco held a ceremony to dedicate a washer and dryer donated to the school this month. This donation was made possible by Pepco’s generous donation to District Bridges, formerly known as the Columbia Heights Initiative. We thank Pepco for their leadership and continued partnership in supporting the mission of District Bridges and community at large. We also honor the teachers and staff of Harriet Tubman Elementary School for their dedication to the students of our neighborhood and Principal Amanda Delabar for leadership and passion for her school.

This donation was made possible because of our partners’ support of our mission to enrich neighborhood vitality by bridging community engagement and economic development so that individuals, businesses, and organizations can thrive together. We hope this is only the beginning of a great partnership that is forged, as all three organizations work to make Columbia Heights a great place to live and a community that thrives.

Research has proven that students are less likely to attend school when they do not have access to clean clothes. Studies show that better attendance is related to higher academic achievement for students of all backgrounds, but particularly for children with lower socio-economic status. A simple solution like providing a washer and dryer to a local school can make a real impact in the lives of students in our community. We are excited to see the students and families of Harriet Tubman benefit from this donation and we hope that through this donation, everyone, no matter their socioeconomic status, feels accepted, welcome, and part of our community.

Thank you again PEPCO and Harriet Tubman Elementary School for your investment in our community.
